PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS gists, licensed mental health professionals, and minis try leaders will receive hands-on training on sports and performance psychology tools. Participants will examine several evidence-based sports psychology approaches that can help performers enhance their mental toughness to achieve peak performance. Learning Objectives Participants will: 1. Identify core concepts related to helping clients achieve peak performance 2. Examine and apply sport and performance psychology consulting techniques focused on performance 3. Apply cognitive and behavioral theories/models related to the mental health of performance 018. Recovery Alive: The Faith-based 12-step Program for Mental, Spiritual, and Addiction Recovery Approved for 3 IBCC CEs for Pastors, Pastoral Counselors, Lay Counselors, and Coaches Level: Beginner Summary: As the numbers of those impacted by America’s mental health and addiction crisis continue to climb, the Church has a historic opportunity to help stem the tide of this growing pandemic. For two decades, as a national director of one of the largest Christian recovery ministries in the world, John Eklund has helped thousands of churches around the country launch and grow mental health and recovery programs. Today, as the founder and National Director of Recovery Alive, he is more determined than ever to equip the Church “for such a time as this.” In this workshop, John will provide the tools and training needed to launch and grow a mental health ministry in your church, including an in-house recovery program that provides immediate safety and support to those in need. 1. Discuss types of traumatic loss, including deaths by homicide, disasters, traumatic accidents, and suicide, and unique challenges for grievers 2. Review literature on the unique elements of traumatic grief and the limited studies available on effective interven tions 3. Examine practical techniques to assist grievers in resolv ing symptoms of traumatic stress and allowing for more effective resolution of the most intense and painful ele ments of grief 4. Examine case studies of traumatic grief and the key role of faith and faith communities in the resolution of traumatic grief, as well as other critical evidence-based resilience factors 017. Summary: In contemporary sports psychology, enhancing cognitive performance has emerged as a pivotal aspect of optimizing achievement. Drawing upon diverse theoretical frame works and empirical evidence, achieving peak performance in sports and life integrates psychological interventions, neurocognitive training, and performance enhancement techniques to foster comprehensive cognitive development. This foundation rests on utilizing sport and performance psychology cognitive-behavioral techniques, encompass ing goal setting, imagery, and self-talk, which have been demonstrated to bolster a performer’s focus, confidence, and resilience (Hardy, Jones, & Gould, 2019). Additionally, mindfulness-based interventions, such as meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction, have shown promise in enhancing attentional control and emotional regulation, thereby optimizing cognitive functioning in sports contexts (Gardner & Moore, 2020).
