Summary: There is no perfect spouse or perfect marriage. All marriag es contain some difficulty, trouble, and suffering. However, some marriages are not just difficult; they are toxic and de structive, causing damage not only to the relationship itself but to the people in that home. Faith-based psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical professionals, ministry leaders, and coaches have been slow to recognize and validate this reality, nor have they responded wisely to the real damage caused. In the biblical understanding of headship, this principle does not mean ownership, submis sion does not mean compliance, forgiveness does not give permission, grace does not erase consequences, and biblical love does not enable destructive behavior to continue to cause harm.
