Summary: Anxiety is understood to be one of the fundamental dis tress signals in human beings. However, what exactly is the ultimate “distress” that it is signaling? Psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical profession als, and ministry leaders can measure the neurophysiologi cal expression of anxiety—but this does not tell them what the essence of it is, nor what it signals. To interpret this information correctly, science is not always the answer due to the storytelling nature of humans, and one of the most ancient human stories describes that ultimate distress for human beings lies not in the presence of threat but in the absence of a non-anxious presence. This workshop will explore the interpersonal neurobiological mechanics of anxiety and offer practical insights and clinical applica tion for clinicians who work with patients with multiple diagnostic concerns. Learning Objectives Participants will: 1. Identify anxiety’s fundamental role in all identified psy chiatric distress 2. Discuss the interpersonal neurobiological mechanics of anxiety 3. Apply the understanding of inter- and intrapersonal isolation in clinically effective interventions 4. Utilize meaningful spiritual practices that enable faith based patients to regulate anxiety 208.
