Summary: We live in a “me-centered” culture, with many selfishly asserting their “rights” and powering over others in the process. This epidemic of selfishness, entitlement, and emotional immaturity fuels narcissism and marital sexual abuse, traumatizing many and eroding the sensitive fabric of marriage. In this workshop, participants will learn how to identify and confront subtle, covert narcissism and emotional abuse, which is often seen in domestic violence. Participants will explore the culture of narcissism and the individual character pathology of narcissistic traits and its impact on marriage. Psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, and ministry leaders will gain strategies to assist individuals and couples in navigating their way to relational health. Specifically, we will discuss interventions needed to assist the narcissist and healing strategies for the victim of narcissistic abuse. Learning Objectives Participants will: 1. Identify traits of narcissism, Narcissistic Personality Dis order (NPD), and Narcissistic Victim Syndrome 2. Describe cultural myths being promoted regarding NPD 3. Outline best practices for treating those with NPD, nar cissistic traits, as well as victims of narcissistic abuse 4. Identify steps that can be taken to confront and inter vene in narcissism and emotional abuse
Summary: Facing a terminal illness diagnosis can be difficult for anyone. This is particularly true for newlywed couples confronting a terminal illness diagnosis shortly after exchanging vows or even couples that have been together for a long time. Drawing from a poignant case study, psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical professionals, ministry leaders, and coaches will identify and examine examples of love, loss, and resilience within the context of this unique and emotionally complex journey. As attendees delve into the intricacies of the case study, they will gain a deep understanding of the experiences that newlywed couples, specifically, and other couples, more broadly, undergo when navigating the uncharted waters of terminal illness. The session will also equip participants with practical knowledge by exploring four coping strategies tailored to the specific challenges posed by a terminal illness diagnosis, with further strategies for medical professionals to engage and help the grieving spouse of the patient. Attendees will learn how to navigate the emotional terrain, fostering resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Learning Objectives Participants will: 1. Identify examples of love, loss, and resilience in the case study presented
