Basic re lationship skills often prove insufficient, as present issues frequently stem from unresolved past traumas. It is crucial for licensed mental health practitioners to comprehensively understand the dynamics of a couple’s relationship, includ ing their upbringing and past experiences, which may im pede healthy interaction and communication. These factors encompass current relationship skills but are predominant ly influenced by past triggers. This workshop will focus on strategies to assist couples in managing present conflicts and identifying underlying triggers from their past. By address

Participants will analyze the neurobiol ogy of relationships and the core principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), focusing on what has been shown to effectively bring about change in distressed marriages. Furthermore, participants will also identify the “dragons” that shape relationship dynamics, triggering negative cy cles and conflict. Finally, participants will assess the key el ements necessary for healing and fostering strong, healthy marriages. Specific tools that participants can directly ap ply in work to guide couples from distress to connection and lasting intimacy will be discussed. Learning Objectives 1. Evaluate research on the foundational elements of a healthy marriage and use attachment theory and the Safe Haven Model to identify the destructive cycles that contrib ute to marital difficulty and keep couples hurt and discon nected. 2. Recognize the neurobiological factors that influence re lationships and analyze the core principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to understand effective strategies for bringing about change in distressed marriages. 3. Assess the key elements necessary for fostering strong, healthy marriages and learn practical tools that can be ap plied within work to help clients transition from distress to connection and lasting intimacy.
