Summary Positive psychology is an emerging field that has significantly contributed to understanding human flourishing and per sonal well-being, but where did these principles originate? In this workshop, psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical professionals, ministry leaders, and coaches will explore the context that gave birth to what is now known as Positive Psychology. Participants will identify and describe how Positive Psychology has contributed to the scientific study of what enables individuals and communi ties to thrive. Additionally, participants will examine current research on the role of positive emotions in achieving and maintaining human flourishing, explore the concept of Solo monic Wisdom, and discuss the idea that King Solomon may have been one of the first practitioners of Positive Psychol ogy. Participants will discuss points of convergence between Solomonic Wisdom and Positive Psychology and the clinical relevance of this intersection for working with clients who value religious faith. Learning Objectives 1. Identify and describe the contributions of Positive Psy chology to the scientific study of human flourishing and per sonal well-being and how these principles support individu als and communities in thriving. 2. Examine current research on the role of positive emotions in achieving and maintaining human flourishing and explore their significance in promoting long-term well-being. 3. Explore the convergence between Solomonic Wisdom and Positive Psychology, discussing its clinical relevance and how this integration can inform practices when working with clients who value religious faith. 620. Many clinicians feel constrained by ethical and professional guidelines, uncertain about how to incorpo rate faith-based interventions without compromising their licensure or professional responsibilities. This workshop is designed for licensed mental health professionals seeking
Summary Mental health professionals and ministry leaders frequent ly encounter clients with complex issues, resistant behav iors, or difficult dispositions, often as a result of past trauma. These clients may present with a range of challenges, includ ing complex diagnoses and trauma-related issues, which re quire a specialized approach. In these cases, therapists must draw on evidence-based therapeutic techniques, skills, and interventions to mitigate the risk of adverse outcomes and foster positive progress in therapy. Additionally, recognizing one’s own competence, education, and expertise is essential for ensuring that participants remain effective when working with this population, thus preventing burnout and frustra tion. This workshop will provide mental health professionals and ministry leaders with a comprehensive understanding of how to apply both evidence-based practices and bibli cal principles for willing Christian clients to support positive therapeutic outcomes. Participants will learn strategies for effectively engaging with clients who present with complex psychological needs, ensuring that their interventions are both clinically and spiritually supportive. Learning Objectives 1. Identify and evaluate the clinical characteristics and traits of clients who present with complex psychological is sues, including trauma-related behaviors and challenging dispositions. 2. Assess the role of interpersonal skills, professional train ing, biblical knowledge, and an unbiased approach in promoting positive therapeutic outcomes for challenging clients. 3. Examine and apply three trauma-informed therapeu tic techniques that enhance the psychological and spiritual well-being of clients for willing Christian clients with a his tory of trauma. 619.
