We do not offer “quick fix” solutions or “yes/no” answers that AI is noted for. Instead, we develop trusting relationships where we walk with individuals and couples through their entrenched problems, and more.

In the face of these incredibly challenging issues, we then make decisions about what methods of intervention to employ. Do we use guided exploration, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), emotion regulation skills, trau ma-informed strategies, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), or other sophisticated tools? AI cannot make those decisions and certainly cannot hold someone accountable for change, but clinicians can. Strengths of Trained Clinicians Where AI struggles, trained clinicians excel. Consider that experienced and trained clinicians can assess complicat ed relational problems rooted in narcissistic personality issues. Additionally, we are able to notice, in real time, emotional manipulation, resentment patterns, trauma, as well as patterns of codependency and chronic conflict cycles. We do not offer “quick fix” solutions or “yes/no” answers that AI is noted for. Instead, we develop trusting relationships where we walk with individuals and couples through their entrenched problems, and more. Through the use of structured interventions and the skilled application of insight, we assist individuals in emo tion regulation, trauma-informed strategies, boundary setting, and safety planning. While AI can often identify the problem, only a skilled clinician can determine what the behavior means, what to do about it, and how to im plement the solution safely. Complexities of Emotional Abuse Again, while AI can undoubtedly help determine the pres ence of a problem, it will struggle in determining the level of danger and the need for safety. AI cannot hold someone accountable for emotional abuse. Offenders often utilize a wide range of defensive maneuvers that can confound even seasoned counselors. Imagine AI trying to navigate these complexities. Emotional abusers use strategies to confuse and confound victims, causing them to doubt their perceptions. AI can never challenge excuses, con front the lack of empathy, identify covert abuse, or medi ate difficult conversations. Experienced clinicians in the field of narcissistic and emotional abuse tackle these issues every day. We estab lish boundaries, assess levels of threat, and identify esca lation patterns, cycles of harm, and degrees of crisis and danger. Again, AI educates but cannot intervene. Christian Counseling Adds Another Layer Our faith adds another layer of complexity to an already challenging situation. As Christian clinicians, we have the

guidance of biblical wisdom and the Holy Spirit to inform our counseling, which AI will never have. Scripture reveals God’s truth about human nature, sin, suffering, and brokenness, all incredibly relevant issues in our counseling. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righ teousness” (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV). Additionally, Scripture provides clear guidance on moral issues, right and wrong, and God’s will for individuals’ lives. It encourages repen tance, faith, and obedience, which lead to inner trans formation rather than simply behavioral change. Most importantly, however, is that the Holy Spirit is an active Counselor, revealing hidden sin, unhealthy patterns, and heart issues that need healing (John 16:8). Finally, true transformation requires spiritual power. The Holy Spirit gives strength to forgive, resist sin, endure suffering, and grow in Christlike character (Galatians 5:22-23). Christian counseling is aided by Scripture as the objective standard of truth and hope, and by the Holy Spirit as the living presence of God who guides, convicts, comforts, and transforms. This partnership enables coun seling to transcend human wisdom and move beyond to God’s redemptive work in the life of the believer. Proceed Cautiously How then might we utilize AI going forward? I am certain ly not dismissing the power and potential of AI. Frankly, I am unaware of the potential of AI. However, I would like to offer a cautionary note. Might we use AI for educational purposes? Yes. Can we gain a deeper understanding of complex issues through AI? Again, yes. We must, however, be careful not to rely solely on AI or set aside our God-giv en wisdom and values, as well as our clinical experience and expertise, when assisting individuals, couples, and families in turmoil. ;
