It results from prolonged exposure to another’s suffering, manifesting as emotional exhaustion, decreased empathy, and a negative shift in worldview. While CF is most com monly seen in caregivers, first responders, and healthcare professionals, anyone caring for a family member with a serious illness can be affected. In this workshop, psycholo gists, licensed mental health professionals, medical health professionals, and ministry leaders will examine aspects of assessment and treatment of compassion fatigue and burn out, especially its relationship to internalizing the trauma of clients and patients. Participants will analyze signs and risk factors for both individual CF and global compassion fatigue. Additionally, participants will examine how themes and narratives of CF can be applied in counseling and therapy, including recovery strategies, self-care techniques, and re silience-building. Emphasis will be placed on preventing CF and maintaining compassion satisfaction to sustain caregiv ers’ well-being. Learning Objectives 1. Explain compassion fatigue and burnout and how it re lates to the internalization of the pain of traumatized indi viduals. 2. Analyze the signs and risk factors of both individual and global compassion fatigue. 3. Identify themes and narratives of compassion fatigue and how to utilize it in counseling and therapy, including recov ery and self-care strategies, resilience, and prevention. 221. Summary Adoption introduces unique challenges that can evoke emotional distress, frustration, and disappointment for both parents and children. Drawing on the principles from Loving Adopted Children Well: A 5 Love Languages Approach by Drs. Gary Chapman and Laurel Shaler, this presentation equips psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, and ministry leaders with evidence-based strategies to strengthen family bonds. The 5 Love Lan guages®—Acts of Service, Gifts, Physical Touch, Quality Time, and Words of Affirmation—offer practical tools to foster attachment, love, and hope within adoptive families. This session also addresses critical topics such as manag ing emotional disconnection, aligning parenting strategies between spouses, supporting single adoptive parents, re ducing sibling rivalry, and connecting families to essential resources. This workshop provides actionable insights to support adoptive families in overcoming challenges and nurturing meaningful relationships. Learning Objectives 1.
