Summary Young girls are bombarded by so many media outlets, in fluencers, and advertisements that tell them to think, feel, and be a certain way, often contrary to their desire to live according to their faith. In this workshop, licensed mental health professionals, ministry leaders, and parents will gain a better understanding of the messages girls are absorbing in this digital age, the root needs that underline most of the maladaptive coping strategies concerning adults today, and the solutions that can help a young girl become more coura geous, resilient, and find an identity rooted in grace despite her story. This workshop will address practical tools for help ing faith-based girls develop the confidence to trust God with whom He says He is and whom He says she is—tools for healthy relationships and prevention of entering or stay ing in toxic and abusive systems, including domestic abuse. Uniquely integrating faith-based, clinical, and relational wis dom, participants will gather insights from evidence-based treatments found in child-centered play therapy, interper sonal neurobiology, identity formation, and trauma-in formed spiritual formation, including an introduction to the Courageous Girls free resource. This workshop is for anyone working with girls ages 8-16 years old. Learning Objectives 1. Describe the key confusing messages facing girls today in faith-based and secular environments and their impact on their brain development, identity, use of voice, and sense of safety in the world. 2. Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy development, the root needs underlining most toxic coping strategies girls use today, and how to practically meet those needs in effec tive ways regardless of girl’s story and cultural experience. 3. Evaluate the Courageous Girls model and curriculum and outline how this can be used with parents in a faith-based or therapeutic setting. 315. Summary Many licensed mental health professionals and medical pro fessionals have heard about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and that it has strong research on its effectiveness with trauma and other mental health issues. In this workshop, the history of EMDR and the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model will be explained and discussed. Participants will learn the definition of trauma and how trauma affects the brain and central nervous system of people. For many people who have experienced trauma, they live in self-denigrating or limiting ways. The AIP model explains how EMDR Therapy helps integrate trauma experi ences and memories into the adaptive portions of the brain, thereby resolving the impact of trauma as a whole. Partici pants will be introduced to the eight phases of EMDR ther apy and how EMDR effectively treats different populations and clinical disorders. Learning Objectives 1. Discuss how trauma affects memory from the AIP model. 2. Explain the Safe Calm Place protocol and briefly practice this technique. 3. Identify three different populations and how EMDR Ther apy can be an effective treatment for various disorders in ad dition to PTSD. 316.
